¿Un acuerdo imposible? La gestión pública del pasado traumático: de Berlín a Euskadi
Keywords:
Politics of memory, holocaust, terrorism, Germany, Basque Country, BelgiumAbstract
This article analyzes two memorials to Holocaust victims: Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen (Belgium) and the Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe, in Berlin. The main goal is to extract the lessons which are applicable to the Basque Country, with regard to the foundation of institutions dedicated to the memory of the victims of terrorism. Based on the two examples we have just mentioned, we argue that it is possible and necessary to reach basic agreements on the public politics of memory. We hold as well that the role of the historians is very important in dealing with a subject which is susceptible to political instrumentalization.
