Half a century without Toribio Echevarria (1887-1968)

Abstract

The objective of this work is to remember the figure of Toribio Echevarria Ibarbia (1887- 1968) on the 50th anniversary of his death. In order to do this work, I have based on his books and correspondence with his friends. His biography, his ideas and his written works are exposed and analyzed in the article. Echevarria was an atypical socialist from Eibar. It cannot be said that he was a politician as he never held any political office. Nevertheless, he was considered the 'grey matter' of the socialism from Eibar, a peculiar movement within Basque and Spanish socialism.
